John Gill Hedgehog Cast Iron Board, circa 1863-1900's
I came across this awesome cribbage board and wanted to let everyone know about it.
Most highly prized by cribbage board collectors is the John Gill metal board known as The Hedgehog. The John Gill Manufacturing Co. sold a metal hedgehog board under U.S. Patent #40999 issued on 12/22/1863. The board is made of cast iron, with 120 metal pegs, 60 on each side, which pull up for keeping score. There are 18 regular pegs plus 3 large pegs down the center of the board for keeping track of games won. There are 10 gold and red floral looking designs on the top and a gold design around the edges. There is a gold design around the sides and red paint on the base section. There is some wear in the black paint and the gold around the edges, but no damage to the board itself. There is a covering on the bottom that shows normal wear, and 4 brass bun feet. All pegs work perfectly. Measurements are approximately 10 ½" by 3 ½" and weight is 4 lbs. 10.5 oz. Free shipping within the United States.
